My wife and I came to Grahame Rouleston about five years ago.

I had been doing our own investing (in an ad hoc manner) and keeping careful records for about 20 years. While the results were surprisingly good for an amateur who only took a superficial interest in the market, I had other things I would rather be doing. I thought the experts should be able to do better with the money, both in good times and bad.

Grahame was able to explain the various options and the corresponding benefits and consequences in a clear manner. He was up to speed with the latest changes in superannuation and was in time to take maximum advantage of my wife’s age.

The choice of investments is backed up with Lonsdale’s research and all the accounting keeping is handled automatically by Wrap accounts. I just keep and eye on the over portfolio valuation and the various fees which though significant, were properly explained beforehand.

We feel that our monetary assets are in good hands, and we have received good advice on other matters such as wills, powers of attorney and enduring guardianships etc.

Mr Grahame Rouleston of Rouleston Financial Services has been known to me like many of my fellow clients, for many years.

For me I have the good fortune to know this man, his organization and his managing and administrative skills for a period of (23) twenty three years. At no stage during this time have I had absolutely any doubt in his ability and integrity in first completing my annual taxation returns and then undertaking all legal obligations and responsibilities in relation to my personal investment portfolio.

I have mentioned the requirements of obligations and responsibilities specifically in relation to my investments because we all appreciate and know how more complex and arduous the various financial regulations and constraints have become since the late twentieth century and yet Grahame has always most diligently undertaken his duties and tasks both from the point of view of accountability and due care to government operations and clients' needs and assistance to the highest standards within the investment/financial world. Not only does he conduct the affairs of this company in the said manner, his daughter and his other staff members also display an equal degree of loyalty and trust both again to the company and the clients to which they serve.

One incident I would like to bring to your notice that will aptly demonstrate the length this company's staff will go to for us is a situation when I required a last will and testament had to be drawn up. Grahame not only assisted me to engage a first class solicitor for the work, but he also drove me to the offices and remained there during the appointment so should any relative matter arose where further financial advice may have been sought by either myself or the solicitor, he was there to help. I would imagine in these times of "impersonal service" such is increasingly a dying gesture.

Reflections to time past and present.

When you reflect on the time and changes made in your retirement years it is remarkable to note some important decisions had to be made.

In the first instance, we tried to supervise the business necessary to investments, etc and life as that did not fit the lifestyle you wanted. A change to various financial planners turned to being detrimental to reasonable results and became losses.

I have been a client of Rouleston Financial Services for 12 years. Initially I sought advice from Grahame on the investment of some funds I received when I left the Public Service. The procedures that he followed, the advice he gave and the assistance he rendered resulted in a satisfactory return. With this experience in mind, I decided to consult with him when I was considering retirement in 1998. Grahame outlined the options available to me in a clear manner. He appeared to be always keen that I understood the risks and benefits of the various investment strategies, and endeavoured to answer all questions fully. On my recommendation, my wife invested an inheritance under the advice given by Rouleston's staff.

When the time arrived to set up our funds for an allocated pension, the whole matter was arranged with the same kind of consultation and advisory service as the abovementioned investments. The resulting arrangements have proved very workable with minimal stress. In addition to providing advice on financial management, Grahame encouraged and assisted in the updating of our wills, Power of Attorney documentation, and organisation of required funds when selling and buying houses. The periodic reviews of our financial situation are conducted in a very comprehensive fashion, with all questions addressed fully. We receive periodic reports on our investments, invitations to investment seminars. We are always treated in a friendly manner by all staff.

As a one-time officer volunteer in the State Emergency Service, I have an ongoing concern for Emergency Planning. I recommended that the business undertook a review of their threats and to prepare suitable plans to combat and minimise emergencies. Grahame and his staff have taken up this recommendation, and I continue to take an interest in this matter.

In summary, I am quite satisfied with the services and assistance provided by Rouleston Financial Services and can recommend the organisation to individuals like myself i.e. retirees, or prospective retirees.

How did I select Rouleston's as our financial advisor ?

Approximately ten years ago I came into some insurance money to reinvest. I decided to seek the assistance of a financial advisor and selected three to draw up investment proposals.

Grahame Rouleston had been recommended to me by one of my work colleagues who had had personal dealings with him which had proved most satisfactory. After considering the proposals and meeting the proponents I decided that Grahame was the "one that I could look in the eye" and most trust and was closest to my own investment approach and seemed to have my best interests at heart rather than maximizing his returns.

Since then I have used Rouleston's for advice for deciding superannuation matters such as % lump sum and pension amounts from RBF, to establish an investment account for my wife in "superwrap" with the potential to draw an allocated pension for her at some stage in the future and to manage funds for my elderly parents who can no longer manage their affairs.

In the initial years I made extremely good returns on monies invested and in the recent years with a downturn in the market have suffered only modest losses. Overall I am very satisfied with Rouleston's financial advice and anticipate an improved return on investment as the market recovers.

In addition I see Rouleston's as providing security to my wife in regard to financial matters should either pass away or become incapacitated. I have dealt also with Julie Rouleston and feel secure in her ability to provide ongoing advice in the future.
